Taos Pueblo Gov. James Lujan Sr. was to be among those present at a White House ceremony to celebrate the signing of legislation that includes the Taos Pueblo Indian Water Rights Settlement Act.

President Barack Obama was scheduled to sign the bill Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 8). Other dignitaries at the signing included U.S. Sens. Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall, and Rep. Ben Ray LujŠn.

The Taos Pueblo settlement, also known as the Abeyta Settlement, resolves long-standing disputes over water rights between stakeholders in the Taos Valley. It quantifies water rights for tribal and non-Indian users, and provides millions of federal and state dollars for regional projects.
